Plagiarism and Copyright

Anytime I think I have an original thought, I run across it later in an article or on the net. We are unaware, but we are stealing other people's ideas all the time, remixing them and calling them our own. All research is just a form of theft. I don't understand how rearranging the words gives exclusive rights.
