Flimsy Sanity: Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

Flimsy Sanity

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

Just finished the book. A summary: Corporations are evil because greed is the only motivator and corporations run our government and the governments of other countries. Also read Kitty Kelley's The Family about the Bush dynasty. Now I know she has a reputation for sleaze but I liked her book on Nancy Reagan and I liked this one also. Also just finished Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser (who wrote Fast Food Nation) about illegal workers, the porn industry and the drug industry. Been busy reading rather than blogging.

These books have a common theme: The rich can do anything to anybody.

Flimsy, Coolidge's "The business of America is business" now has a corollary which must be recited any time it's mentioned... "and the business of business is greed".

So long as we use money as a report card in this country, I suspect that will remain true. I still remember my multimillionaire ex-employer telling me, "You know, you could be rich if you just weren't so damned honest." When honesty is viewed as a handicap, I suspect the jig is up...

"The rich can do anything to anybody"......but usually they restrict themselves to the poorer members of society, that way they are almost certain to get away with it.

Stop reading; blog for a while. I've been missing your pithy articles.

Kitty Kelly has always been hit by the conservatives but they have a hard time disputing her research as it is thorough and backed up. Her Nancy Reagan book was right on and I can't wait to pick up the Bush book.
