Flimsy Sanity

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Rita Mae Brown says

Wikileaks defense:
It is imperative that people write and speak the truth. There can be no community if a person is not as good as her/his word. Camus said, "It is immoral not to tell." If this (truth-telling) is prevented (as in Stalin's Soviet Union, Hitler's Germany, Botha's South Africa) the civilization begins to die from the inside out.

She also does not say that people are sheep:

People like iron filings, will line up toward the center of force. For instance, if your setting is a small southern town and the sheriff is the real power in the town, then the majority of residents will support the sheriff. Many of them may not be conscious of this. To their way of thinking, the power is given, therefore not examined. It's the way things are. On a national scale, you could say that the power rests with multinational corporations.
