I like to read other blogs besides my sidebar favorites. Not the ones that are really popular but the ones that are just little people like me that like to write and hope that someone will read it and find it worthy of a little discussion. Since a comment to me is like a pet is to my dog Harriet, I usually try and comment on other people's even if sometimes I disagree. Sometimes I will read their past entries and there are months that have gone by with no comments, but they still have all these roadblocks. I just cannot believe that so many people are so inundated with spam that you have to go through that horrible verification process of smashed together letters. I took it off long time ago, and honestly I don't get spam and if I did, it is so simple to delete. The only thing worse is the comment moderation where the blogger has to approve of what you say. Why all the protection when people are writing under made up identities anyway? What word would you find so offensive that others would be ruined forever so you have to check it like a teacher before you let people see it? Who is so frightened of an opposing opinion that they have to squash it? End of rant.

This seems way too coincidental to me....were you my anonymous commenter that I gave a little flak to? ;)

Also, I didn't even realize mine was on...does it default to that? I turned mine off after checking, I hate doing other peoples CAPTCHA. If ever I actually have a huge amount of readers that the site actually does attract spammers, then maybe I'll put it back. Maybe.

I really appreciate your comments on my blog, naderlover.
The thing is, I'm not very good with computers. Today is the first day I realized that you have a blog, because you actually linked to it.
I had read your story on the bee keeper in North Dakota. Amazing story. Ralph Nader points out that the drug business is a massive world-wide money maker, but who knew it was in North Dakota?
Anyway, a friend set up my blog, because he said that I am so opinionated that I needed one. My blog has a hold on comments. I don't know how to change it. It isn't arrogance, just ignorance.

Bart: Can't say. Sometimes I post anonymously, but usually not.
Greener than Thou: Thanks for reading the bee thing.

I hate the roadblocks too. I leave my site wide open for any comments, but I don't get many. I don't think I've ever gotten any spam, either. It's lonely out there on the fringe.

hi FS
i have always appreciated and responded to the comments you leave on my site.
in general though i never use comment moderation and have never deleted a comment. i have however had several death threats, not for my own site but for the other one i do about animal extinction. i simply copy and past news stories from around the world on the subject and can begin to understand the vitriol i have had directed at me for doing it.

ryk and michael: You both have great blogs. Ryk, is that fringe element or lunatic fringe?
Michael: What the hell is wrong with humans? Probably just too many of them - more quantity than quality.
I am pretty bad about responding to comments. I guess that would show how much I appreciate them.

I have to admit that I have kicked a person off of my blog for excessive argument. It wasn't because I didn't like what they were saying, it was because they refused to learn from anyone else and constantly tried to force their own opinion and religion on others. If you can never concede that you are sometimes incorrect, you do not have a place in an area where people are trying to teach each other about various points of view.

One gets worse than spam when you don't moderate comments.
A lot of that spam carries nasties like spybots and so on.
Also I do get ugly, nasty, personal comments -- because of what I write about. A lot of rightwingers people don't like it when you call a prominent local fellow a racist, for instance, and all those guys come together to post a gaggle of comment about how you like to f*ck bl*ck d*ck and equally racist and sexist uglies.
Voila! Comments must be screened, and any comment of that nature never sees the light of day, which is also a great disappointment to that ilk of -- well I won't call it humanity.
Love, C.
