In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Virus problem

My computer has a virus, so I may be gone for awhile. I trust the country can run itself without my advice.

Not indefinitely. If you have no antivirus software, I've heard the AVG free download is not bad. You can get it here:

I had Bitdefender virus protection but I guess not good enough. I got a root kit one and my cd/dvd thing is on the blink. Can I replace it to run a clean install, or when I run the software to install the new drive, will that be compromised too? I am not going to spend much on it because Ebay and Amazon sales are nil and I want to wait to see what the economy does, plus the thing is 5 years old. - Diane

I was wondering where you were. Good luck with the virus, hope your important stuff is backed up.

I have had macs for the last 20 years. Never a problem. Probably worth the extra money. On the other hand, maybe it isn't a big deal? Since it has never happened to me - nor to any other mac users I know (although I have heard of instances few and far between) maybe the extra money isn't worth it. But I'm with omnipotent poobah - without this blog my head is starting to gradually slide back up my ass. I don't want to be a blind, deaf, and dumb american again!

I can second Dale's advice about the Mac. I've had mine now for 2 and a half years with no problems at all. I'm done with PCs.

I have a Mac, also, but until my IT specialist moved back home, I was unable to function properly.
