Flimsy Sanity: Democrats vs Republicans

Flimsy Sanity

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Democrats vs Republicans

It isn't like the democrats aren't obligated to lobbyists too!

I was watching an interview with some MIT professor who was talking about reciprocal altruism ( Wikipedia) which is hardwired into our brains as part of our biological evolution. "Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You" or "Tit for Tat" is as much unconscious as religious. Every time you give any gift, you expect an equal value or better one back and if this doesn't happen, you feel taken advantage of - watch anyone at a bar who buys his buddy or a woman drinks. It is one thing to use your own money to try and keep things equal, but incredibly easier if you use public money.

I was somewhat disappointed in the scope of this post. I was hoping you were going to skewer the notion that lobbying and lobbyists are evil. To my progressive mind, we all depend on lobbyists, some are just 'more equal than others'.

    Vigilante:
Since the lobbyists often write the legislation they promote, we could theoretically get rid of Congress. Privatization of all government services is patriotic you know.

The Citizen Congress envisioned by the founders is the worst constitutional casualty in our history (a close winner over the standing army). I wonder if there's anything to be done to fix it . . I suspect it's too late.

CV: I agree. The corruption is so deep. It is so absurd that we talk about spreading democracy when we haven't had one in a long time.
