Flimsy Sanity: Working at McDonald's

Flimsy Sanity

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Working at McDonald's

Listened to the Senate debate on the minimum wage this morning. They are tying it to 8.3 Billion in tax breaks to small business. As an aside, you would be shocked at who they consider small, but that is off topic. The Wyoming Republican was going on about how minimum wage is just a step up the ladder to prosperity and how the workers at McDonald's should get a low wage. Obviously, the fat bastard has never worked fast food - the pressure is intense, the working conditions are hot and greasy and you seldom get enough hours to make any progress - most only get to work the rush hours. Rich people always cry about how hard it is to make it. Give me a break!!! If McDonald's wasn't very profitable, there wouldn't be one in every town.

Those asshats make me want to vomit. They're not considering how many people work minimum wage jobs because it's their only other option! In my hometown, Wal Mart moved in and shut down a bunch of businesses where people were earning a fairly decent wage. Now they're all working for minimum wage at Wal Mart (those lucky enough to get a job) and can't get enough hours to get benefits. Most of these people have families to support and can't afford to drive 50 miles to work a better job like I can.

I hate all the excuses being thrown around to rationalize keeping poor people poor while huge businesses get tax credits out the ass.

Here, take my soapbox before I hijack this post. Sorry. :)

As Ted Kennedy says, why do they hate the working class so much.

Fatcat Republicans and Democrats have no idea of life on less than $200,000 a year. It's incomprehensible to them. A step up - to what? Another minimum wage job because poor families can't ever afford the tuition fees of colleges in this country, so their offspring can't get a better education and improve their lot.
