Flimsy Sanity: Martin Luther King Day

Flimsy Sanity

In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Martin Luther King Day

My bank has a sign posted on the window that says they will be closed Monday because it is a Federal Reserve Holiday, they will not say it is "Martin Luther King Day". They still think the holiday should never have been established. You find some of the strongest bigots in areas that have never been exposed to any variety.

    Do you mean 'America'?

Well, I know that I honor the Federal Reserve on every holiday. Ranks right up there - veterans, labor, and the Fed.

    Sheesh.

Flimsy, I guess it's true...there's nothing like having the cowardice of one's convictions!

Shame on the bank...and shame on every customer who doesn't protest it to bank management.

Yes, we are having a Federal Reserve parade and a Federal Reserve picnic and we will spend the day thinking of all the Ferderal Reserve has done for America - land of the now lame.

This is an example of institutionalized raceism .Probably the people who work at the bank and most of the customers are not raceists. The elite among us these days are the worst offenders of all. Those of us who work and learn beside all forms of humanity are for the most part not racists. You do not find any recognition ,in new upscale neighborhoods,of any civil rights noteable.

I think they should switch Christmas and Martin Luther King Day. Then the evangelicals could have a War On Martin Luther King Day, and Christmas would fall on a Monday every year, so you'd be guaranteed a long weekend.

As much as I'm tempted, I'm not sure this is about racism. Americans don't celebrate any holiday in the spirit of which it was established. Holidays are just an excuse to have a big sale.

In fact, MLK Day might be better in that respect. At least they board up the post office and close the banks, but I can't recall anyone having an MLK sale.

Besides, what can you expect out of the Fed? Alan Greenspan never saw a black person other than those little outline people he uses in his charts and graphs.
