Flimsy Sanity: Angry people

Angry people

This is what Fox, O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, Palin, and Limbaugh have wrought.

One comment on Metafilter:

I found all those people shouting get a job to be hilarious. If you are liberal and out in the middle of the day, you are a stinking hippy. If you are conservative and out in the middle of the day you are running errands for Jesus.

The single issue anti-abortion people think that abortion will end if it is against the law. All I have to say about that is "look how well that worked for drugs". Abortions were available before they were made legal, they were just more dangerous. Same thing with drugs - available and rip offs everywhere and the users are the only ones who have to pay for breaking the law (sometimes with their lives spent in prison) - more of the "punish the monkey, let the organ grinder go."

Sounds like they are bitter and I bet they cling to religion and have guns. Speaking of which, do you think McNasty chose Palin as the most bitter gun lover (shoots from planes - how sporting) religious (Pentecostal - Holy Roller) mean- spirited human he could find?

Angry, uninformed, and just plain stupid. That's the right-wing base and it's all they have left.

Ryk: This account of the Republican Convention marchers is interesting. Seems the left is always portrayed as being out of control, but the right is probably less rational as a group. Of course, there are extremists on both sides.

Extremist politics are always dangerous because they isolate large sections of the populace from legal protections. If Rowe v Wade was overturned in this country it would reintroduce a situation that existed in much of Europe for decades, (Eire is still wrestling with this problem). Back-street abortions become the norm; infections and fatalities rise drastically as a result; the victims of rapes and incest end up in prison for no other crime than being female.
Extremists have no place in a true democracy, which exists on the will of the majority. When the far-right, or the far-left take control, it is only minorities who benefit, the vast majority suffer.
