Flimsy Sanity: Who is this guy?

Who is this guy?

I like reading Metafilter. For quite awhile I have been seeing ads from the guy pictured. The ads are not that cheap.
He has a site promoting his book called God Without Religion which sounds like just another crackpot wacko religion because his ad on Metafilter headlines with "Jesus Writes a Book, What is the Title". He has 10,800 entries on Google. His book is 2,000+ in Amazon which is a pretty high ranking. Most of the entries on Google looked like self promotion. Is this our next cult leader?

He is probably a pseudo-Buddhist. He founded 'The Pranayama Institute', an online yoga site that specializes in breathing techniques and energy utilization. 'Pranayama' is one of the lesser known forms of yoga. He also wrote the book you noted. The Institute is a registered charity and holds online workshops and seminars. So far as I know it takes no money for these services, though donations are gratefully received. Of course, the book is $25, and most who utilize the services would buy the book, but I have heard nothing negative about Saranam, so it is quite possible he is genuine. Arun Ghandi certainly endorses him. I see him as another individual of the Maharishi-type as favored by the Beatles in the late 60's. I doubt he will turn out to be America's next great spiritual leader, though he would undoubtedly be preferable to Pat Robertson. Mind, for that matter, so would Attila the Hun.

Cult or religion is pretty much a matter of volume of adherents. I am suspicious of anyone with such an enormous ego and such a network of self promotion. Of course, that is how politicians rise to power, too. Thanks for the synopsis Mr. Adams. I think I'll pass on the book.

Me, too, Flimsy. There are enough sad people out there prepared to offer substantial donations to the likes of Saranam, and for his 'services', that he could probably give the book away free and still make a good living.
